How this all started.
The short version .... A group of Alumni just wanted an excuse to reunite and laugh with the friends who made their high school years unforgettable.

The long version .... The first YHS All Class Reunion was held in 2017, organized and funded by a passionate group of alumni hoping to preserve the Homecoming traditions for all Yorkville High School alumni. These individuals, led by April Harris Morganegg (class of 1972), had attended Yorkville High School mostly in the 1960's and 1970's when Yorkville was still a small tight-knit semi-rural town. They remember how Homecoming used to include class floats hand made with chicken wire and tissue paper, a bonfire and pep rally on Friday night, the parade on Saturday morning followed by the football game at Noon. Saturday evening was the Homecoming Dance in the gym with a live band and the presentation of the court and the announcement of the King and Queen. Homecoming was a whole-town event with many adults attending the dance. Following graduation, the senior class president was in charge of organizing the first class 5-year reunion during Homecoming weekend. After all, the Homecoming Celebration is meant to welcome home alumni! It was relatively easy to plan these reunions since the classes were small and a reunion every 5 years was a natural way to reconnect and maintain tight bonds.
Between 1970 and 2010, as the town grew from a small community of 2,000 to a burgeoning suburb of 17,000, high school traditions shifted from intimate, community-driven events to more varied, regulated, and diverse practices that reflected the changing population and cultural complexity of the town. Today the Homecoming celebration begins with the parade on Thursday afternoon, the football game on Friday night, and the dance at the high school on Saturday night. As the class sizes ballooned, it became harder for students to know their entire graduating class and planning a 5-year reunion was logistically difficult. Social media eventually became the replacement for organized reunions since it allows people to keep in touch.

The All-Class Reunion has evolved into a special celebration that welcomes alumni from every graduating class, bringing together generations of former students to honor our shared history and lasting school spirit. Whether you walked the halls in the '60s, '90s, or just a few years ago, this reunion is your chance to reconnect with familiar faces, swap stories that never get old, and feel the spirit of our school come alive once again. From shared laughter to cherished traditions, we’re bringing together the past and present for a joyful celebration of community, legacy, and lifelong friendships.

The reunion is still organized and run by volunteers and is funded entirely on donations from Alumni. Costs include rental of the venue, tables and chairs, advertising and decorations. The Reunion was held at the Kendall County Fairgrounds through 2025. The 2026 Reunion will be held at the Go For It Sports Dome. All Alumni are invited and encouraged to help in any capacity so that this event can live on for many more years.
